The Root of All Evil
The story began with pro basketball player Brock Lane ordering a couple of drinks at Chili’s Grill and Bar in Calumet City, Illinois; and he was on a mission to get completely wasted in the shortest time humanly possible. He felt betrayed, and he also felt completely helpless about his current situation. He had just received a contract extension, so it could’ve been any number of past acquaintances who may have double-crossed him. And to make matters worse, he may have offended the waitress who served him a beer and a shot of whiskey because she appeared to have known him, but he didn’t recognize her at first glance.
The next chapter rewinds to the day before, when Brock arrived in Chicago from St. Louis to visit his family for Mother’s Day weekend. His stepfather picked him up from the airport, and things got heated from that point on. They noticed right away that a car was following them from the time that they left the airport, and two thugs cornered them in the parking lot where they were going to eat lunch. The two criminals kidnapped Brock’s stepfather and demanded a million-dollar ransom by midnight of the next day or else his stepfather is as good as dead. The Root of All Evil is an urban fiction thriller and is a must-read book for those who appreciate action and suspense.
