Brock Lane needed a wind down after getting his stepfather, Brent Jones, back safely and giving his captors the one million dollars in ransom money for his freedom. He decided to go to Chili’s and have a few shots at the bar to calm his nerves, and that’s when he got reacquainted with his college crush, Naomi Hill, who was a waitress there. They exchanged numbers and hooked up for their first date a few days later. Meanwhile, Brent contacted his old friend from the military, Detective Blaine Stanton, and gave him all of the vital information needed to track down the kidnappers and bring them to justice.

Brock’s teammate and friend Malik Thomas convinced him to go to a party with him on the northside of Chicago Saturday night, and subsequently, Brock pieced together all of the clues of the kidnapping and robbery after running into his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Jackson. Naomi, her brother Nicholas, and mother Natasha decided to go to Red Lobster on Mother’s Day, and Naomi discovered that Nicholas’ wife was cheating on him while placing a name on the restaurant waiting list. Finally, Brock’s sisters Nicole and Jasmine flew into town on separate flights Sunday morning for Mother’s Day, and the family decided to dine out at a popular restaurant in the southwest suburbs. Jasmine then revealed that she had a huge crush on Malik over dinner. Frenemy is Book 2 of the Brock Lane series.
